What is formative assessment?

Formative assessment takes place while learning is still under way, and its purpose is to steer teaching and learning rather than to award a grade. Short questions, observation and feedback show early on what a student has learned and what is missing, so the teacher can plan support accordingly. It differs from summative assessment, which grades work at the end of a term.

How Measura uses it

Measura’s short 20-minute check sessions and the re-check two to three weeks later follow this approach: the result reaches the teacher’s weekly list as a support suggestion, which the teacher accepts, edits or declines.
